Ágoston is 10 months old and has been battling a rare leukemia.
Standard chemotherapy in Hungary has failed, and his only chance is an immunotherapy treatment in the USA costing around $1.2 million.
“Our heart-breaking story began when my 2-month-old baby had a spasm on his back. After extensive tests, a biopsy revealed a malignant soft tissue tumor. He is currently undergoing chemotherapy every three weeks, with four months of treatment remaining. Financially, we are struggling to afford essentials like medications, baby supplies, and the care for his Hickman catheter. My partner works in construction, but one income isn’t enough to cover these costs, especially with extended hospital stays.“
“My son’s illness began in April 2024 with strange speech and a large swelling in his mouth. After tests in Miskolc, he was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma. The tumor spread quickly, blocking his airway, so a tube was inserted for oxygen. He’s undergoing chemotherapy (10 cycles done, 5 left) but still can’t eat solid food and will need a gastrostomy tube. Proton therapy is required in Wiener Neustadt, starting after a planning session. NEAK will cover the treatment, but travel costs are reimbursed later. We’re facing significant challenges with his care and recovery.“
“From December 2021, Márkó started chemotherapy, and on April 11, 2022, he underwent surgery during which doctors removed the tumor on his adrenal gland and kidney along with the organs. The tumor was also present in the spinal cord, so he underwent a bone marrow transplant. On June 27, 2022, we were placed in a sterile box for a month. In September 2022, it became clear that the transplant had not been successful, and his illness had returned. Therefore, he needed chemotherapy again, followed by radiation therapy. He then started maintenance therapy, and we had high hopes that he would finally recover, but unfortunately, that was not the case. On May 15, 2024, it was discovered that the illness had relapsed and metastasized, with a tumor now appearing in the lymph nodes on the left side of his neck. On July 9, 2024, his chemotherapy treatment began in Budapest, which is now expected to be even more challenging than before. Currently, he is undergoing his fourth treatment, which had to be stopped due to very poor blood results. An MRI scan was done on September 27, and it revealed that Márkó cannot be operated on.“
“Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a genetically inherited disease. One of its common accompanying conditions is the almost inevitable development of scoliosis. Therefore, early diagnosis is crucial, as is the use of the most advanced procedures and equipment in treatment. Luna was diagnosed with the disease in January this year, and since then, she has undergone comprehensive examinations and has started medication.”
“I believe that for almost everyone, the greatest joy in life is the birth of a child. We felt the same way, but our unclouded happiness did not last long. Our little boy, Dominik, was barely a year old when it was discovered that he was born with a genetic condition called Duchenne muscular dystrophy. As a result of this disease, Dominik will experience a gradual deterioration over the next few years due to the destruction of muscle cells. Although the process is slow, it is fatal.”
“Our heart-wrenching story began in 2021 when, on a September day, our child hit their head at the nursery! A few weeks later, their left eye, and then the right, started to squint. We immediately went to the ophthalmologist, who recommended glasses and an eye patch. We started using them, but there was no improvement. I felt this couldn’t be simple childhood strabismus, so we sought a private ophthalmologist who immediately requested an MRI. Never in my worst nightmares did I imagine the diagnosis that would completely turn our lives upside down…”
“Szofi was born very, very prematurely; she was smaller than a loaf of bread when she was born at 27 weeks and she also suffered a brain hemorrhage. Nine years have passed since then, and Szofi is developing well; she is smart, intelligent, and already goes to school. However, the brain hemorrhage did not disappear without a trace. Unfortunately, her movement is not at all like that of other children. Her condition is called cerebral palsy, which means brain-induced paralysis, and as a result, her right hand and right leg do not really serve her intentions.”
“My name is Benjámin Micskó. I was born on 20. 02. 2020. I just turned 4 years old. I am a wonderful, cheerful, curious, ever-moving little boy. I was diagnosed with severe Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy”

“Adin’s mother and father noticed that their son had become quite loss of appetite, so they took him for a blood test. However, the cause of the loss of appetite was not what the parents expected. The liver function values and CK level were very high, leading to further investigations. Finally, on December 17, 2022, the results of the genetic test arrived, revealing that Ádin suffers from the extremely rare Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.“
